Searching Petroleum Abstracts database material online requires (1) payment of an annual PA subscription fee, and (2) payment of an annual online access fee or search charges to an online service.

An account with an online service is necessary to search Petroleum Abstracts. Please contact each vendor directly for its price and account information. Each vendor also provides its own schedule of access and retrieval rates for TULSA.

Some online vendors offer different versions of TULSA for PA subscribers and nonsubscribers. Only the subscriber TULSA file contains abstracts. Companies that do not have a PA online service subscription may search these nonsubscriber files for up to 2 hours per year.

Dialog/Thompson

PA subscribers can search the full TULSA database through Dialog File 986 (PA Dual Major Subscribers only) and File 987 (other PA Subscribers) or in file TULS on Dialog's Datastar service. You can pay an annual site license fee for unlimited searching on Dialog or Datastar, or transaction-based search and retrieval charges on Dialog. In addition to PA, Dialog carries numerous other scientific, technical and general-interest databases. Dialog is a product of ProQuest, a member of the Cambridge Information Group.

Ovid Technologies

Ovid provides access to the full Petroleum Abstracts database through its Web-based search interfaces. Payment of an annual online access fee provides unlimited access to PA database material on Ovid for PA subscribers. Ovid carries many other science-related databases and journals, in addition to medical and pharmaceutical databases and information. Ovid is a subsidiary of Wolters Kluwer NV.

Questel-Orbit

Access to PA's full TULSA database on Questel (formerly Questel-Orbit) is available to PA subscribers through online search and retrieval charges. Questel does not offer an annual access fee or site license fee for PA at this time. The Questel online service specializes in intellectual property information, including patents, and also carries numerous science-related databases.

STN International/Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS)

STN provides access to the full TULSA database for PA subscribers through online search and retrieval charges. It does not currently offer annual access fee or site license searching of PA. STN is operated jointly by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) and FIZ-Karlsruhe, and is represented in Japan by JAICI. In addition to CAS and other chemistry-related files, STN carries numerous scientific and general-interest databases.

Discovery on AAPG Datapages

AAPG/Datapages carries the PA Discovery database, which contains all entries published in the Petroleum Abstracts Bulletin from 1961-present but does not include index terms. Subscribers to Petroleum Abstracts can pay an annual online fee for unlimited searching of PA Discovery. In addition to full-text AAPG publications material, AAPG/Datapages provides access to several geology-related professional journals.

Petroleum Abstracts Search Service (PASS)

PASS provices custom searches of the TULSA database on a fee basis. PASS charges standard fees for searching plus access and retrieval charges, depending on the amount of information requested.
